bath photographic society

We are excited to announce the 2026 Annual Exhibition of the Bath Photographic Society. The exhibition features a wide range of stunning photographs from our members and this year we are delighted to have work from our special guest exhibitor - the Street and Landscape photographer Tom Rowland (@tomrowlandcamera).
Entry to the exhibition is free and the photographs will be in the art space of St Michael’s Church in central Bath, BA1 5LJ (opposite Waitrose). Open 9.30am to 3pm.
Our society has specialists in Wildlife, Portraiture, Travel, Landscape, Fine Art and Street Photography - including the two images by member Mike Hendon below. Some members use expensive kit and others only use a camera phone, so you can see what can be achieved with a range of photographic equipment.
There is also the opportunity to purchase the prints on show and vote for your favourite image. We would like to thank our sponsors for the event: London Camera Exchange, Bath.
"The aim of this year’s Exhibition is to make it an immersive experience for the visitor. Seasoned members will be on hand to talk photography if you wish or you can just enjoy the pictures on your own. The photographer of each image has been asked to add a short explanation of their image - what they saw, and how they took it - to bring it alive. I am particularly excited to present Tow Rowland's beautiful images alongside our talented amateur members. We look forward to seeing you.”
Tom Rowland was born in Bath and over the past 10 years has travelled to over 25 countries for Natural History productions including: BBC’s Planet Earth III and Netflix’s Emmy Award Winning Secret Lives of Orangutans. When Tom isn't filming he is a street and landscape photographer where he takes the wildlife photography skills of patience, timing and precision to the streets and surrounds of Bath, Bristol and London. His fascination with impressionist painters has blended into his photography and he has curated his favourite style which is capturing photos that look like paintings. Competitions
Each year we run a competition league where external judges consider members’ submitted images. This is an excellent opportunity to hear qualified judges’ comments. Members who enter regularly, find that this is one of the best ways of learning from others and developing their skills. Judging evenings are usually well attended and benefit from the entertaining and informative contribution of the judges. There is also a healthy element of friendly competition between members. Whilst it is accepted that judges’ views are subjective, for many it’s the
enjoyable discussion that follows, that enable us all to develop the ability to assess our own images and improve our skills.
There are separate categories for mono and colour prints and digitally projected images (DPI). Most of the rounds are Open, allowing for all subjects, and one round is given an annual theme. As well as the top three placed images, judges can award Highly Commended and Commended to a number of images. At our Christmas party we hand judging over to our members for the best display of composites, DPI tryptychs and storyboards.
For more insperation, please see the other sections of the competitions tab. Information regarding preparation of files for digital entries is included in the Rules section.
