Geoff Wood - Photobooks
It was good to see you last Tuesday when Geoff Wood shared his experience of preparing photo-books. At the beginning he went through the emotional process of deciding what we might want to do with the 1000’s of photos we have (and still do accumulate) - and covered artistic photo-books as well as straight recording. (Some of his recording ones were very artistic though!)
He showed us an interesting book of his trip to Namibia which was told in a travel story manner and this book spurned two more - Rocks and Deserts and Landscapes of Namibia and one dedicated to showing Rocks and their abstractions, both of which were differently presented.
We were shown a series of Abstract images which Geoff himself likes and had compiled the book with that in mind ( this gave us one impression of what goes on his head!)
And for me the Jewel in the Crown was his personal record of the life of his family from 1930 - 1969 followed by one of himself and his own life and University years from 1969 on going. It was touching and very charming with lots of narrative which I was dying to read but we didn't have time! Talk about emotional content!!! A terrific historical record Geoff which brought the history of one family alive for us all. Geoff had included some fascinating features such as a map showing the timeline of the movements of his family over the years.
As well as taking us through the “stories” Geoff shared with us how he actually prepares the books and went through a few of the design options and the prices. Some great tips Geoff - Thank you once again for sharing this with us.
